H.264 Video in Adobe Premiere-Editing H.264 in Premiere Pro CS4/CS5/CS6

Summary: The Adobe Premiere Pro won't import H.264 files smoothly. The easy workaround is to transcode H.264 to a more "edit" friendly codec for Premiere Pro. Here is how.

I've had huge problems with h.264 and Adobe Premiere Pro. I shoot with a canon T2i at 24fps and its native video is on h.264 codec. I used to edit by importing the native H.264 footage into Premier Pro (CS6), but found trouble when it was really slow and didn't flow smoothly. Searching from Google and got some recommended solutions for using H.264 files in Adobe Premiere Pro. Below is the test of these ways.

Solution 1: Try MPEG Streamclip to encode h.264 to quicktime

I read some threads about encoding h.264 into .mov(I don't use a Mac so ProRes is not an option) so I heard of the program MPEG Streamclip 5 Squared to convert my videos and export them as a Quicktime. However, when I import the videos with this new codec and try to edit it, it still lags and it's annoying to edit.

Solution 2: Try Brorsoft Video Converter for Mac to convert H.264 to MPEG-2

The program is an easy-to-use yet professional H.264 encoder for Mac. It's able to convert H.264 files from Canon EOS 70D, Canon 5D Mark III, GoPro Hero, Nikon DSLR to Adobe Premiere Pro more compatible MPEG2 video. With it, you may also encode H.264 to Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Elements, FCE, iMovie, Avid and more NLE programs highly compatible formats for editing. If meet the H.264 codec issues with Premiere Pro on Windows PC, please get Brorsoft Video Converter to solve the problem.

Premiere Pro and H.264 Workflow- Converting h.264 files to edit in Premiere Pro

1. Launch the H.264 to Premiere Pro Converter, you can click "Add Video" button (or "Add from folder") to load source files. Convert supports batch conversion, so you are allowed to add multiple files to convert at a time.

2. Select " Adobe Premiere/Sony Vegas > MPEG-2 (*.mpg)" as output format for Premiere Pro.

3. Adjust the video and audio parameters, including the Bitrate of Video&Audio, Video Size, Sample Rate, Frame Rate, Audio Channels, etc., by clicking the Settings button on the main interface for getting the best quality.

4. Click the convert button to start transcoding H.264 footage for Adobe Premiere Pro with the best H.264 Encoder.

After the process completes, click "Open" button to find the generated videos, and then you can transfer the converted H.264 recordings to Adobe Premiere Pro CS4/CS5/CS6/CC7 easily and quickly.

A workaround to edit MPEG video in iMovie with best workflow-Import MPEG to iMovie

Summary: The easy workaround to get iMovie work with unsupported MPEG files is to convert MPEG to Apple InterMediate Codec(AIC) MOV which ensures the best result when using in iMovie 08/09/11.

MPEG, as the most popular video format, is widely used. The MPEG files are compressed to allow users to download the files more quickly without sacrificing much of the picture quality in the video itself. However, the users met the problem while importing MPEG videos to iMovie for further editing.

Q1: I have several video files from a Sony camera that I have placed on an external hard drive. The files are .mpg. How do I import these files into iMovie?

Q2: I just upgraded to Mavericks because of this advice (and it was about time), but I don't see any of these Services options when I right click. I have a mpg on my Desktop that is playable through Quicktime, etc., but won't go into iTunes, iMovie, or iPhoto...

According to the Apple official website, iMovie doesn’t support MPEG format. In other words, you are unable to locate your MPG files into iMovie directly. You need to find another way to perform the task. As we all know, the most compatible video codec for iMovie is AIC, then transocoding MPEG(MPG) files to AIC with a third party program is an easy way to edit MPG videos in iMovie.

To fulfill your task, you can just get Brorsoft’s Video Converter for Mac, a powerful video converter, editor and player. It offers an optimized preset Apple Intermediate Codec .mov for iMovie for easy access.
