Avid MXF Converter-Transcode Canon XF100/XF105/XF300/XF305 MXF to DNxHD for Avid MC
Summary: The Avid Media Composer 6 won’t import MXF files from Canon XF100, XF105, XF300,XF305. The easy workaround is to transcode MXF to Avid Media Composer natively supported format - DNxHD. Here is a quick-stare guide.
Canon XF100, XF105, XF300, XF305 camcorders are considered a landmark in the groups of Canon's professional high definition camcorder, which appeal to a wide range from videographers or film-makers to photography fans, which is featured with MPEG-2 Full HD 4:2:2 recording(MXF format) on CompactFlash at up to 50Mbps. However, users find it’s difficult to import Canon MXF clips to Avid Media Composer or other NLE system.
As far as I know, MXF is a self-container format which is unacceptable by various non-linear editing systems (NLE), like Avid Media Composer(5/5.5/6/6.5), Pinnacle Studio, Final Cut Pro (FCP 6/7/X), Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere Pro(CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6), etc. In order to import the MXF files from Canon camera to Avid Media Composer for editing, the easy workaround is to transcode Canon MXF files to Avid MC compatible video formats. Along with some help from a top MXF Converter, it can be done.
