Importing DivX(AVI) into Adobe Premiere Pro for further editing

Summary: Facing problems when importing DivX video files into Adobe Premiere Pro for further editing? This tutorial just aims to solve Adobe can’t detect DivX codec issues.

If you have some DivX files and import these DivX to Adobe Premiere Pro for making a home movie, it probably turned out to be a huge letdown.

Q: “I have DivX movies, and when I import them to Adobe Premiere Pro CS5, it does not display any sound! What's more, the Adobe program does not allow me to import DivX files bigger than around 200 MB.”

As far as I know, DivX is a very heavily-compressed, delivery-only format, designed for decent quality, small file size, streaming media. For that sole purpose, they do a good job. They are NOT designed to be edited. Besides the extreme compression, they are GOP, so have to be converted to full I-Frame, to edit in any Frame specific NLE, including Adobe Premiere Pro. That means you cannot edit or properly import DivX encoded AVI files to Premiere Pro.

If you’re in such a situation, there is an easy way to fix the issue. Get a DivX converter and transcode .divx files to .mpg for Premiere Pro, which will save you both time and trouble, and all you need is to drag the result videos for prompt editing. For this purpose, this article will show you how to convert DivX to MPEG-2 on Mac in detail.

How to Convert DivX for Editing in Premiere Pro smoothly

Step 1: Download, install and run Brorsoft Video Converter for Mac, and then click the “Add” button to load the .divx videos.
