The best workflow to fix the compatibility issues when importing and editing Sony PMW-EX3 MP4 files in Avid MC (Avid Media Composer).

The Sony EX3 imaging equipment like EX1, is 3 ½ inches CMOS imager, also is MPEG-2 long GOP code, the highest 35Mbps 1920 * 1080 Full HD recording, the standard lens is the same, are 14 times zoom HD lens Fuji dragon. So, if you use the EX3 standard words, and imaging quality of EX1 is exactly the same.

While, SONY EX3 shooting format is MP4, the MP4 file can be edited in avid MC ?

“Every time I import XDCAM MP4 Files from my Sony EX3 to Avid MC 6. The App crashed suddenly. What’s the matter on earth? Help me out! Thank you!”

Well, Avid MC might not work with some MP4 files sometimes due to the codec issue or other reasons. To import Sony EX3 MP4 files into Avid, you need to convert MP4 to Avid Media Composer friendly format first.

On Avid official website, it recommends DNxHD or XDCAM codec for editing, and DNxHD codec is the first choice. So if want to get Avid Media Composer work perfectly with MP4 videos, the easy workaround is to convert MP4 to DNxHD mov.

Brorosft Video Converter for Mac can be of great help in this task. With it, you can effortlessly transcode 720p/1080p MP4 files to DNxHD encoded MOV for Media Composer 5/5.5/6/7, and it works well and converts flawlessly.
